INTERNATIONAL SURVEY OF AUTOMOBILE INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
To develop the international and domestic socio-economic activities and improve the quality of personal mobility, it is important to coordinate the functions and uses of motor vehicles to the above changes and at the same time to better the current car traffic systems and their infrastructure by improving the safety measures, energy and resources consumption and system efficiency of the overall traffic systems as well as of motor vehicles.
To meet the change, efforts are being made to develop traffic control and information systems at various governmental organizations and research institutes in Japan. Similar efforts are being made and related experiments are being conducted in Europe and the U.S., although socio-economic conditions are different from Japan.
This international survey is intended to investigate the present status and future trends of such systems in Japan, Europe and the U.S., and to compare them from technological, economic and social viewpoints and thereby:
<1> To develop recommendations for the improvement and efficient development of automobile information systems and for their standardization and integration, and
<2> To develop recommendations for international technological cooperation and coordination for such systems.
More specifically, the survey is intended to provide governmental organizations, auto manufacturers, electronics makers and R&D organizations of each country with basic data to help them develop policies and research strategies. The survey is also designed to encourage international technological exchange among the organizations concerned.
